We lost Stephanie's father in October at the age of 89. Although funerals in Japan are somber events, the American service was a celebration of life, with Stephanie giving a eulogy including humor as she related episodes characterizing her father's life. Kye carried the urn, which was placed into the columbarium along with photos of all immediate family. I remember Ed's healthy appetite in August, when we all went out for dinner and he enjoyed a large steak. Two months later, he sat down in a chair on the terrace before going to his weekly poker game, and slipped away from us very peacefully. I remember that when I left him in August, he told me that he had had a long and extremely fulfilling life and that we should not mourn for him.
